Health Promotion

Every day in North Carolina, approximately 160 residents die of chronic disease, injury or violence.  North Carolina's cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevalence rate place it among the quartile of states with the highest CVD rates in the nation. North Carolina is also in the quartile of states with the highest diabetes rate in the nation.  The Health Education Program (special emphasis on Health Promotion) work tirelessly to reduce the statistics for the citizens in Rockingham County.  Below you will see a list of some of the many efforts we are implementing throughout the county.

  •  Opioid Prevention and Awareness
  • Safe Sleep
  • Wellness Works: Trains local employers on how to develop and initiate a wellness program for their employees
  • Minority Diabetes Prevention Program
  • Faithful Families Eating Smart and Moving More
  • Diabetes and Chronic Disease Self-Management Classes
  • FreshStart Smoking Cessation Classes
  • Diabetes Academy
